Plan for real mobile conditions
Permissions & visibility
Location and background permissions must be enabled appropriately by the device user. Make tracking transparent, explain its purpose and use the app only with the necessary consent and authority.
Battery & connectivity
Reporting settings, battery-saving modes, network coverage and operating-system restrictions affect how often data reaches the platform. Test the actual phone under expected working conditions.
Interrupted connections
The tracker workflow can retain location records for later upload when connectivity is interrupted. Review the device configuration and verify that records arrive after reconnection; do not assume uninterrupted live visibility.

Prepare your phone-tracking setup
- Choose the personal or hosted account the device will connect to.
- Request the approved app distribution and configuration instructions for Android or iOS.
- Review permissions, reporting settings and battery behaviour with the device user.
- Test an authorised sample journey and check that the expected records reach the account.
- Agree who can view the data and how long records are retained.
